Laura Thomas’ book was a quick read. Why was it so quick? Because I did not want to put it down. There were quite a few times when the author had me on the edge of my seat, worrying about what was going to happen, fearing for the safety of the characters involved.
Set in a peaceful ‘adult only’ resort in on the sands of Jamaica ready for Chloe and Nathan’s wedding celebration, all anyone would expect is relaxation after all of the ‘wedding jitters’ were gone.
But fear and tension begin to rise for Madison, bringing up echoes of the past that are better left in the past when she discovers that a man with ‘icy blue eyes’ may be stalking her. She finds a confidant in Luke, Nathan’s brother, as she tries to keep her fears from ruining her sister’s wedding and then honeymoon.
Luke begins to wrestle with his decision to remain single for the rest of his life as he and Madi confide in each other about their lives, and as he tries to help her work through her fear of the ocean. Madi starts to fall for Luke but tries to fight it as she knows about his call to singleness.
Soon all of Madison’s fears come to a head when she is kidnapped by two men greedy for the inheritance her parents left behind when they were killed in a plane crash. A ransom of two million dollars is placed on her head, and Luke must find her before her kidnappers decide to dispose of her.
Throughout the book I found myself questioning which characters were good, and which were hiding something. Was I rooting for the wrong people? Should I be cautious of them instead? Who is safe, who is not?
And what about the romantic tension that begins to rise between Luke and Madi? What is God doing in this situation? What choices will be made, what sacrifices?
Laura has a way of making you ask these questions and second-guessing what you think you know. She weaves these questions all throughout the book, straight through to the end, and I found myself having to read on until all of my questions were answered.
This is a wonderful book about the powerful message of leaving your past behind you, finding a way to forgive, and beginning to trust again. It’s about handing complete control over to God and trusting him to get you through.
This is a book I would highly recommend if you are looking for an inspirational story filled with suspense and maybe a little bit of romance.
