A Lady’s Knight by Meagan Spooner and Amie Kaufman was pure magic from start to finish. I fell in love with this book immediately, and I’m so glad I experienced it as an audiobook. The narration was phenomenal and it gave the story such energy and personality that I honestly can’t imagine picking it up in print. Some books are just made to be listened to, and this was one of them.

It had major Ella Enchanted (2004) vibes, humor, charm, and adventure, but told through a sapphic lens with a strong feminist heartbeat. I loved how it mixed modern things with the histrom setting, creating a world that felt fresh yet still a true histrom. The banter sparkled, the romance was swoony, and the feminist undercurrent made every plot choice feel intentional and satisfying.

The sapphic romance wasn’t just a side element; it was central to the story in a way that felt organic, joyful, and affirming. I loved that the characters had agency, that their relationships were built on mutual respect and trust, and that the story never shied away from giving them both the happy ending they deserved.

I finished the last chapter feeling completely full; like I’d been given the exact kind of storytelling I needed. This book reminded me why I love fantasy, romance, and audiobooks all at once, and it’s one I’ll be recommending for a long time.

Very cute. Has some gaps. Sometimes overly complicated.

The concept was cute and delivered well. Gwen, a blacksmith’s daughter competes in a jousting tournament to help Lady Isobelle from having to marry the projected winner while also developing feelings for the lady. Both characters were entertaining and neither fell into the vapid category. I liked that even Lady Isobelle got to be clever and innovative. It would have been easy to make her into an airhead but she had a well rounded character and smart head.

There were concepts that were introduced and nothing came of them. It felt like maybe a lead-in to a sequel but I don’t know if I found them interesting enough to explore this more.

There were some areas that were a little too complicated, one example is Gwen having two additional personas other than herself. There was Gwen the blacksmiths daughter who was dressing up as Sir Gawain to compete in the tournament. When she wasn’t acting as Sir Gawain in the castle, she pretended to be one of Isobelle’s ladies in waiting (whose name I cannot remember). This felt cumbersome and took me out of the story at times trying to figure out what name Gwen was going by.

Overall it was a cute and fairly quick book. If you want something on the lighter side, this one is for you.

Really enjoyed this lighthearted feminist fun sapphic YA. Jousting! A queer woman knight and her noble lady! Who says chivalry is dead.
