This book felt like a visit with old friends. The author brought Jane Austen’s characters to life in a way that was true to the original. It was a fun read and I enjoyed every minute of it. The twist of who the villain was, was well done! I highly recommend for fans of Jane Austen and mysteries. You won’t be disappointed.

Thank you to Goodreads, Penguin Random House and Kensington books for the chance to read this ARC novel.

An enjoyable read with beloved characters. Did I guess the killer early on? Yes. Does Kelly lay out lots of clues and have Emma & Knightley work through believable suspects & red herrings? also yes.

Confession. I’ve only read the book EMMA once, but I’ve seen the movie dozens of times (the Gwyneth Paltrow version). The author does an amazing job of capturing these beloved characters that are near to my heart. The banter between Emma and Knightley, Father’s hilarious worries about drafts, Miss Bates’ quirkiness, Emma’s and Harriet’s friendship, plus dozens more. It was all there. And add a murder in the mix, I was instantly hooked.

This is my first book from Vanessa Kelly. She does a perfect job with the setting and characters. I enjoyed seeing Emma as an observant detective, as she tried to get a sense of the who and why. While still being her kind, but funny self. There are surprising twists and turns and red herrings thrown in the mix. I enjoyed every page. I hope there is another book in the works.

I received a NetGalley link and a paperback ARC from the publisher. All views expressed are mine.

I loved this book! I love Jane Austen and enjoy when authors create new fiction based on her characters. Emma is probably my least favorite book because I found her hard to like, but in this book I was drawn in and found a new love for old characters. Even Mr. Woodhouse! The mystery kept me thinking about who could have been the murderer with so many potential suspects. I would love a 2nd book to see what happens with Mr. Woodhouse and Miss Bates.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.

A very compelling premise - of course Emma would force her way into any murder investigation she came across! Cute.
