“George, if you were murdered, I’m sure I would lose my appetite.”
Highbury was the epitome of a happy village, especially for the recently married Emma Knightley. Their content life is interrupted when the vicar’s wife, Mrs Elton, is found murdered in the church. With her husband occupied as magistrate, Emma can’t help but do a little sleuthing of her own…
If you liked the Murder of Mr Wickham, you need to read this! We’re taken on a merry chase through the town and a variety of red herrings before we land on the murderer. The author did a great job of capturing Emma’s voice and personality. Getting a peek into the Knightley's married life was lovely. Emma is the perfect character to pick up the reins of a murder investigation, given her general involvement in Highbury and her cleverness. Her relationship with her father was very sweet, I always thought he was a surprisingly fun character and I was not disappointed by his role in this book!

Emma Knightly, handsome, clever, and rich has been enjoying married life with very little to distress or vex her...until she discovers the Mrs. Elton lying dead in the church! Will the stubborn Emma we know and love stand idly by and leave this investigation to the authorities? Of course not!
This was such a fun read with lots of clever nods to the original story! My only nitpicks were Emma calling Mr. Woodhouse father or dearest instead of papa, and that Mrs. Elton's sister is called Serena when her name is Selina in the original story. Maybe the author had a reason for these changes, but they stuck out to me. Aside from that the details were spot on, and I very much enjoyed going back to Highbury and visiting these beloved characters!
Thank you Kensington Publishing and Edelweiss for the review copy!

"Emma pressed a hand to her bodice. "Me, interfere? You must be thinking of some other Emma."
This is an amazing novel, doing the seemingly impossible and making me actually like Emma (nee Woodhouse) Knightley. While I like Austen's story about Emma, I loathe her character. Actually, I had forgotten how much until I picked up this book and decided to rewatch one of the movies just to refresh my memory of the story (yes, I know it's not the same as reading the book). Omg, I hate her so much. I guess the author decided that Emma had a complete personality change after she got married, though. Which is great, because the original personality is horrible.
Anyway . . . I loved this book so much and am hopeful that there will be more books. ❤️ So many times, I thought I had figured out who the murderer was, just to be confused again. In the end, it was one of the people I originally guessed, but then immediately dismissed. Of course, that isn't saying much because I immediately guess everyone, so at the end. I can say I was right

Thank you Kensington and Between the Chapters for the gifted ARC book.
Am I the only person who has yet to read any of Austen’s novels? Despite having no point of reference for the relation to Austen’s Emma, I enjoyed the historical mystery of MURDER IN HIGHBURY. The spunk and wit of Emma Knightly made her quite a compelling character. The writing easily transported me to the Highbury setting and kept me turning pages to find out who the killer was. While I wasn’t completely shocked to find out, I was entertained and would love to keep reading this series. I’d recommend this one to fans of cozy mysteries and the Regency era.
