Ok , this is not a subject matter I am particularly interested in, but Malcolm Gladwell's audiobooks are so brilliantly put together that they make you interested. This one is no exception - I love how he uses the original audio recordings of interviews and news reports rather than just reading it himself. Makes it so much more engaging.
In the afterword, he said that this book started off as an audiobook, and then was later put into print, so that is probably why it was so engaging as it was made for the medium. Well worth a listen...I learned quite a lot.

This isn't my usual genre, even within non-fiction I'm not usually drawn to these types of topics. It was informative, interesting, and the writing style was easy to read (even though the subject matter wasn't always what i would call easy reading). I would probably suggest it to people I know are interested in history or the airforce, but this wasn't so life changing and earth shattering amazing that I'm going to run around suggesting it to everybody I know.

I absolutely loved this, I was engrossed from the beginning, and I feel like I definitely learned a lot about WWII that public school seems to have left out. Very fast read, and I highly recommend the audiobook because there are clips from the actual conversations where quotes would be, and it makes for a more engaging and entertaining listen.

If Gladwell is at his worst when he’s fitting anecdotes into preconceived frameworks, he’s at his best when he’s telling a good story. There’s a little of both here, but more of the latter. The audiobook is basically a very nicely produced extended podcast, replete with audio recordings, sound design, and original music. I love podcasts, but this wasn’t what I was expecting - so it took a minute to adjust. Once I settled in, though, I was thoroughly engrossed. Gladwell is a great storyteller, and his story here is fascinating and touches on aspects of WWII that I didn’t know at all.

Malcolm Gladwell is a bit of a pompous know-it-all, relentlessly confident in all of his assertions... but dang he weaves an excellent story from reliable sources. Particularly good because it began as an audiobook first.

Written very much in Gladwell’s Revisionist History tone, this book is super readable, even if the content is at times disturbing.
