I wanted to read this book because I love fantasy. However, I’ve only ever read young adult fantasy and wanted something with more adults rather than teenagers. I have watched the tv show and have always wanted to read this series. During lockdown, I re-watched the tv show and forgot how much I loved it. I decided to read this series and I was not disappointed with the first couple of books and wanted to know what happens next.

This book still follows a witch named Paige Winterbourne who was introduced in the second novel. Paige is in exile. She has been ousted as the leader of the American Coven, she decides to turn her back on her old life and start afresh. However, the world has other plans. A murderer is on the loose – someone with superhuman skills and a grudge against the supernatural community. When Paige discovers that the killer is targeting the children of the supernatural, she gets involved to try and stop this killer. Paige is now thrown back into a world she thought she had left behind for good. But if she wants to stop an apparently unstoppable psychopath, she will have to find some allies in very dark place. This novel is a fantasy romance fictional novel, and it is in Oregon, Florida and Miami.

This book really disappointed me, I just found it really, really difficult to get into and considering I know the characters and have learned to love the characters, I just don’t know what it was. I think it was the introduction of the Necromancers and it didn’t feel like the romance and fantasy I was used to it – there was a lot of politics and the explanation of dynamics within the witches and sorcerer’s community which Paige and her boyfriend are involved in. I liked the storyline of the crime and Paige trying to find the killer, but there were too many explanations of things that haven’t been mentioned previously.

I really like this series and I’m gutted this book disappointed me and that I didn’t like it as much as the others. The characters are great. I really wanted to see more of the Pack from the first book, but I see why the witches were the main storyline of this novel due to the events of the last novel. I loved the banter between Paige and Lucas, and how the relationship has grown. I missed Elena and Clay and was annoyed they were only in for like four or chapters and hopefully we will see them more in the next novel. I still preferred the first book, but it wasn’t a bad book, and I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy books.
