Goldy Schulz is once again involved in a crime in her community, which distracts her from her catering business. This time her ex-husband - John Richard Korman M.D. (a/k/a The Jerk) - has been arrested for the murder of his current girlfriend, Suz Craig, who also happens to be a vice president of the HMO which bought Korman's practice. Much as she believes he could easily have committed the crime (he has a history of "losing his temper"), she also feels compelled to investigate in order to spare their son the pain of seeing his father jailed.

I've read a number of these mysteries and found them entertaining and delicious at the outset, but now I'm tired of the formula. The recipes are still great, but the plot is thin, and the dialogue repetitive.

It usually takes me a while to get into one of these books, but I was hooked quickly with this one. Quicker murder, maybe? And having The Jerk involved made it more interesting. The mystery was good. The wrap-up chapter seemed overly-rushed as usual, plus it included a few confusing verb tenses. Still, quick & enjoyable. Most promising-sounding recipes: Chocolate Comfort Cookies & Grilled Chicken a l'Orange.

What is her problem?

Goldy is such an enabler as a mother! It is hard for me to get through the story because her son is such an absolute brat! Who treats their mother with so little regard. That part is so nausea inducing that I barely made it through the mystery!

An okay mystery featuring a caterer as detective.

Her abusive ex-husband is one of the suspects in the murder of his current girl-friend. Goldy is asked by her son to try to prove his father's innocence, and against her better judgment tries to solve the mystery of the murder.

Ok, Arch was too much in this one. How he can get mad at his mom when his Dad physically attacks her, I will never understand. I was so disappointed in him in this book.
