I thought Clockwork Angel was good, but this was sooo much better! This was such a solid sequel, and I loved every moment of it! It made me feel happiness, sadness, pure agony, excitement, shock, and just about every other emotion out there. I loved learning more about Will's past because he is definitely my favorite character. I can't wait to read the conclusion to this beautifully written trilogy.

i have a debilitating emotional attachment to these characters
I really enjoyed this book. It is set in the 1850's England and has a mechanical, almost steam punk feel to it. I don't know if I would say the book was 100 percent steam punk but it had a few similarities. It is a pretty easy read and very exciting. It is the sequel to a first book named the clockwork angel, so if anyone was thinking about reading it, I would read that one first.
Violence- 3 There is a little bit of killing and blood. There are a few scenes that are a bit gory but most of it is robots or "automatons" being killed and the black goo that comes out of them.
Language- 1 Being that it is 1800s England, there isn't a whole lot a swearing. I think they say the D word twice, but that is really all.
Sex- 3 There are a few "makeout" scenes that are described pretty intensely, but no sexual relations going on. The book was relatively clean and didn't show a ton a physical affection.
Drugs and Alcohol- 2 There is a bit of wine drinking and claims of being drunk but nobody is ever out right drunk in the book. There is one scene where one of the main character gets high of a demon drug.

This is the best middle book in a trilogy I have ever read!
