Many people said that they loved The Infernal Devices, and 2 books in and I still can't see why.

(I cringed every time Jem spoke Mandarin. I can't speak a lick of Mandarin, but I've heard enough of it to know that they were a bit incorrect. And it's worse in the audiobook.)

You know I'm still new to reading fantasy series, so I've still never encountered the concept of a "filler book" until now. This was most definitely a FILLER BOOK, but you know what I didn't mind.

This is my first Cassandra Clare series, and I'm not sure if all her books are like this, but this one in particular is insanely character-driven. I feel like if you don't like the characters, you may not like this series. Like, book one, everything just progresses slowly. In this book, in particular, as many have pointed out, there was no progression in the plot, like at all. Like yes, things would happen, but not much really transpired to push their goal in finding Mortmain. On the contrary, even aside from the new info they found out in like the last 100 pages, they're kind of back to where they were at the start of the book. And usually something like this would infuriate me; I am a plot over characters girly in books, however, I like the character enough to bumble along with them and kick about until the next book.

Although I haven't read the next book, obviously this is the book where the love range starts to "triangulate-ing", if you will. Jem becomes much more forward with Tessa, and we start to see more of them. In addition, we're also digging into Will and figuring out exactly why he treats everyone the way he does.
Not gonna lie, I didn't like how the author revealed Will's curse to us. I felt like it lacked luster and emotional depth when it was just casually said to Magnus.
Because I'm still a tyro when it comes to fantasy books, I for one enjoyed the little plot twists we got in this book and wasn't expecting them.
I will say I was rooting for Jessamine. I feel like it was refreshing to see a character that didn't fit into the mold with everyone else. I thought she was a Nesta situation (haven't read ACOTAR, but I know enough), where she was more than what meets the eye. I hate that she was a traitor and was willing to do that to Charlotte and everyone. I hope we get more depth with her in book 3, but if not, then I don't really care what happens to her, cuz she did it to herself.

Because I enjoy the characters, I enjoyed this book a bit more than the first one. I didn't find the ending all that compelling, but I'm still curious as to how Cassandra will close out this trilogy.

Oh note, cuz I found this unnnerving:
Did anyone think it was weird that centuries-old Magnus kissed 17-year-old Will? Like I know he did it just to make Camille jealous, but still. And it's weird sometimes how the adults talk about Will, romancizing and flirting with a 17-year-old. It's just odd.

i love this trio so much and i’m not prepared for cwp at all i already know what’s coming

Wow. Just wow. I’m speechless. This book was absolutely incredible. WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THIS BOOK WAS GOING TO BE AS SAD AS IT WAS because I nearly burst into tears at least four times while reading this. I just know that the third book will absolutely destroy me and I am not ready, not even in the slightest. I have no idea how I’ll sit through all 656 pages of it like I am already severely depressed thanks to Will Herondale and Jem Carstairs. Anyway, I love Jem with every fiber of my being and if Will doesn’t get a happy ending I will riot. Thank you for listening to my ted talk
