I'm excited to make my own starter and try out some of these breads!

Several of my online friends had opted for this book for their 'Sourdough Voyage of Discovery'. That and the fact that the author has a very useful blog - www.theclevercarrot.com - decided me to give it a go.

Well, call me impressed! Raffa has put together a user-friendly compendium of recipes and tips for the complete novice. Her instructions are clear and easy. Somehow, she's found a way to simplify the process to the bare minimum for the most return, and she offers a great variety, from your basic sourdough loaf, to flavoured ones, pan loaves, rolls, special flours, and even a section on using discard.

Since I already had developed my starter, I didn’t try that, but otherwise, I have been literally working my way through the book, and everything has worked so far, some, like the bagels, becoming favourites. The other thing I have found out is that when I went back to more ‘involved’ recipes, such as from [b:Tartine Bread|8185785|Tartine Bread (Artisan Bread Cookbook, Best Bread Recipes, Sourdough Book)|Chad Robertson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1347336711l/8185785._SX50_.jpg|13032489], they worked better. I guess practice makes perfect.

Here are a few of my efforts :O)
“High “Morning
“Focaccia" “Brioche"
“Discard “Cherry

Definitely a simpler guide to making sourdough. Planning to make this my go-to book for recipes and how-tos.

I feel like I’m a reasonable competent cook, but maaaaaan, I could not make sense of sourdough bread recipe online. I could totally understand the whole “feeding your sourdough” idea and there were tons of good recipes for what to do with your discarded sourdough starter. But I couldn’t wrap my head around how to make a loaf of bread. Maybe it’s just me? Well, this book took the ideas, packaged them in clear and well-written instructions, and tadaaaaa! Now I have made a wonderful loaf of sourdough bread and it was actually quite simple. There are tons of other sourdough recipes in this book beyond the basic loaf, but to me, it’s worth it just for that basic loaf instructions. There are also some discard recipes (handy), some breads to stretch your skills when you’re ready (exciting) and a section on how to use your bread. That last section is a bit meh, I don’t have problems knowing how to use bread, but everything else is high quality info. Would definitely recommend.

Great instructions for starting and maintaining and making sourdough! We've made bread, pancakes, focaccia, sweet breads, bagels, etc... And all delicious and simple!

Good simple recipes that make you feel confident to branch out and try more complicated sourdough recipes.
