NOT ON MY WATCH by Jeff Bailey is the first book that I have read by this author. It is a military thriller that takes place in Oklahoma. Lance Corporal Cassandra Sing witnesses an event at the base’s north gate. With no way to communicate with others, she has to use her Marine training to attempt to prevent further damage.

Cassie was a compelling character and definitely someone that you could root for. The book started out with an intense situation and that suspense did not let up during most of the book. The reader gets some of Cassie’s backstory through a few flashbacks in time. Her goals were clear and her motivations seemed believable and well-drawn. There were no secondary characters with significant depth, but there was enough information on the antagonists to keep me engaged. The plot twists seemed believable and the stakes were high enough to make this a fast-paced page turner for me.

Overall, this was a dramatic, intense and absorbing novel that seemed feasible and all too real. If you enjoy military thrillers, then this may be the next book for you.

Thanks to the author for a complimentary copy of this novel and the opportunity to read and provide an honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.

Great book! Good storyline. Everything happens in one day. The author obviously knows a lot about the Marines and nuclear weapons. Fortunately, he didn't go overboard on either one of these. That would have slowed down the pace. The human story behind the nuclear threat is Cassie's coming to terms with herself. By weaving action based choices with flashbacks and dreams, the author brings Cassie to life. She is a likeable, believable female heroine. Cassie does not use physical force to combat her adversaries. That kind of shenanigan found in many other thrillers with female heroines is just not believable for anyone who has evolved in the real world. Cassie uses her Marine training and her intelligence. Highly recommend "Not on my watch". Now I'm going to read Jeff Bailey's second book.

This book is an amazing military read, I only started it a few days ago but just couldn't put it down.
Jeff Bailey's expertise and experience shines through! Wonderful to see a female marine lead in the name of Cassie. For anyone looking for a "military" book with a powerful cast and lead, enthralling and gripping to the end, then I can highly recommend Not On My Watch.
A big Thank you to Jeff Bailey for providing such a detailed and insightful read.
Looking forward to reading some more titles by Jeff Bailey.

Military Thriller Worth Its Salt

Interesting story with real-life expertise in nuclear weapons handling and the surrounding security measures, not to mention military training. Those elements give it a solid base in reality. Those details take it beyond people dressed in fatigues to people living military life. The flashbacks to Marine training were educational and held my interest. There are no super heroes here; these are real people showing real heroism and pride in service.
