In all seriousness though, this book was wack. It oscillates awkwardly between a shark thriller and a marriage drama with consistent undertones (and often very explicit overtones) of racism and misogyny. It may be a product of its time but it certainly has no place on 21st century bookshelves.

I love the movie, the book was just okay. it took a couple of turns that didn't feel necessary to the plot but maybe there's more depth to the underlying message that i missed.
