this was not a perfect book and i considered knocking a star off for my small list of issues but it is going to sit so deeply in my heart forever and i need to get a physical copy to annotate asap. maggie may is my girl
Wow, this book was great! I absolutely loved this story! This author not only creates amazing stories and writes beautiful words, but she also fills her books with profound wisdom. Her inspiring words are something to highlight and reread often. I've been touched deeply by this story. I highly recommend this book and this author.
I DNF'd this book, I got 20% in when I realised that I couldn't finish this book. Which was hard for me because I never do that with any book, but I couldn't bring myself to finish this one. And it hurts more because I loved Brittainy's first 2 books in this series. They were so raw and beautiful and real.
While I understand the premise fro the book and the trauma that Maggie is supposed to have experienced, the execution is not good.
I cannot in any way believe that a 10 year old child can some how spell 'mortgage' but she can't spell 'stupid'. And that somehow she understands the concept of sexual assault and murder but doesn't understand that she need to go to the police about what she saw. While it's true that everyone reacts differently to trauma, the way that Maggie reacted was just inconsistent. It was as is she was the one who was held under water and drowned.
And somehow 8 years later she still hasn't uttered a word?! She see's how her silence is affecting the people she loves and yet she makes no move to try and better herself. Or at least try and assure her family that she wasn't hurt physically that day.
Maybe it's a person preference, but I can't read a book where the victim does nothing but claim their victimhood and does nothing to heal themselves.

I loved this book!! I was on the edge of my seat at the climax. I appreciated the accurate portrayal of trauma and panic attacks, that's rarely seen in fiction. I enjoyed the building of the relationship between the main characters and the growth they both had.
The Silent Waters: ★ ★ ★ ★
Brittainy C. Cherry (Elements, #3)
The world keeps spinning because your heartbeats exist.
When a tragic accident forces a young Maggie May to lose her voice, her best friend and the boy she loves will do anything to keep her afloat. But when the tables are turned, can she do the same for him?
This book has been on my TBR for such a long time and I finally picked it up at around 3 AM, and finished it within a couple hours and I am so glad I did, because I think it's the book that got me out of a reading slump. The writing is really, really good
There's something about the way this book was written–the story flows so well and it's smooth and effortless, but simultaneously viivd and picturesque. Cherry includes these wonderful details that make you picture everything in your head and it makes the story all the more compelling: the anchor necklace, the letters, the books, the music, the dancing. I mean, Brooks & Maggie basically did everything that a perfect couple would do.
I absolutely loved Brooks, even if I got ever so slightly irked with him near the end, but he obviously redeemed himself. Maggie was so sweet and wholesome and such a good person that it's impossible not to like her. The way I went from loathing Cheryl to loving her was honestly amazing–she's fabulous, and I loved all the side characters in this book, to be honest.
But, no matter what, the HIGHLIGHT of this book was Maggie and her dad's relationship. Despite all the wonderful Brooks & Maggie quotes I could have chosen, I chose one with her and her dad because the scene near the end when Maggie says that to her Dad literally had me choked up. It was perfect. Absolutely perfect.
The push and pull between the two of them can get a little trying, though, but I kind of loved how they always stood by one another and loved each other no matter what. An adorable couple that I loved reading about!

Spoiler
There's a couple things in this book that you kind of have to put aside such as how her voice just magically comes back from frustration and she can speak perfectly sans therapy after years of not speaking to really enjoy it but I still think it's a good story.
God!
What a great book.
The trauma, the connection, the relationship, the healing.
All so good.
I'm a rock, I swear I am. But this book shattered me.
Brittainy C. Cherry, I'm your new fan. Pleasure!
