More a 3.5.
While I appreciate the story, the tragedy of it, the horror, I found it long-winded and meandering during many passages.
Beautifully written though, with an unbelievable and imaginative vision from an 18-year-old of that time.
Easier to read than I anticipated, I would say it is an important and worthwhile novel for anyone to read.

I really enjoyed the book and its themes/messages. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because I found the writing difficult, since the English used is not necessarily the English I am used to. Other than that I think it's a fantastic book that is worth a read
