If you want a quick and entertaining read, this is for you. Downside, there is a lot more telling than showing, which keeps the world and characters kinda flat. It starts a bit slow then picks up about halfway through. The plot twist was plot twisting though.
Moral of the story: With friends like these, who needs enemies? Everybody showed out and the parents were worse!

Ik heb het wel in 4 dagen uitgelezen, maar meer omdat ik niks beters te doen had…
Er is echt niks memorabels aan dit boek en het plot was gewoon echt slecht
Felt like Goodman’s last book The Counselors, except in a different setting. I definitely felt like I couldn’t put it down as it got towards the end, but overall felt predictable and there wasn’t much character development. It felt like there were some characters just thrown in there for no reason.

I wanted to like this one so much more than I did! I didn’t love the resolution, since Sawyer was a jerk but not exactly evil, and we had barely any reason to truly root for his demise. Bernie’s flip flopping between her loyalties was probably realistic and yet frustrating, as she came to important realizations that she immediately discarded. Even Lee, an innocuous character overall, was flattened by his immediate betrayal of Isobel, in spite of Sawyer’s obvious scummyness. Overall, I just didn’t find this portrayal of class to be as fascinating as Goodman’s brutal examination of gender dynamics has been in her previous novels.
Scoring an invitation for membership to the exclusive Legacy Club in New York City is almost unheard of. But membership gives you a lifetime of power and wealth beyond your imagination. People can only be inducted going into their senior year of high school and only after a rigorous week of events. It's no surprise when Berine, Isobel, and Skyler are nominated. Their families have a history with the club and they've been a shoe-in since birth. What they aren't expecting is that a student they've never heard of on scholarship will also be nominated. As the week culminates with a black tie ball, everyone's lives are about to change and someone isn't going to make it out alive.
