don't like the tone of the protagonist and find it rather obnoxious (imo)

A little background: I read Alison Cochrun’s other book, The Charm Offensive back in early 2021 and HATED IT!!!! It was one of my worst books of the year and I just could not get on board with it. However, since KHOFM was announced, I was always intrigued by it. It seemed like something I would be interested in. So I knew at some point I was going to give Alison Cochrun another chance. so when my book club picked this as the December book, it was the perfect opportunity.
I listened to the audiobook (as I do for nearly everything) and it was so fun and cute. I LOVED the way that the narrator did Jack’s voice. There was such a good cadence and rhythm to the audiobook overall. I would definitely recommend that as a solid way to read this book.
I ended up giving KHOFM a 3.5-star rating. It was cute and fun and a great Christmas read, but there were a few things that stopped it from being a 4 star (I hardly ever give five stars so most of the time a 4 is the best you’ll get from me).
1. There were a few icky consent and sexual situations that made me feel uncomfortable
2. I felt like the third-act conflict, while reasonable, was blown a little out of proportion for what was actually happening. Like, yes, it was a shitty thing to do, but if you had just let Ellie explain herself, everything would have been fine.
3. After a fun book it felt like the book just… ended. Which I know sounds weird, but the ending felt a little abrupt and like it was missing a little pizzazz.
Overall though, I think it’s one of the better Christmas romcoms that I’ve read.
