This was soooooo good. Like, I think I may have liked it more than What Alice Forgot. It sounds a little stupid- it is NOT stupid. It’s so good!! Oh Joy. And Stan. And Logan. And Amy. And even Brooke. I coulda done without Troy but it wouldn’t have been as good without him. And I could definitely have done without the final chapter, but whatever. It wasn’t enough to ruin it. It might be enough to keep it from bumping Alice from the top spot. I highlighted a TON of passages, but look at this one, where Joy is talking about just a run of the mill crappy night: ‘The only recognition you got for surviving a night like that came from other mothers. Only they understood the epic nature of your trivial achievements.’ Or here’s one where the neighbor just randomly realizes how much his dad loved him: ‘It said something about his dad that it had taken Jacob thirty-four years for that thought to occur to him.’ She’s just such an amazing writer!! I really would have given this book more that 3 stars, if the whole Covid part wasn’t in the book. I really enjoyed the book up until then. It didn’t add anything to the story so I was really disappointed that was in there. I read to get away from hearing about that stuff all the time and I definitely don’t want to read about it for pleasure.

It was good enough for me to keep reading because I wanted to know how it was going to end. I was ready for the BIG surprise. I think it was a solid read. It needed to be shortened by 100 pages or so. It just seemed to drag too long in some places. After the book about the spa, I was not sure I would read anything by her again, so I am glad I gave it another shot.
