Hated the audiobook performance, where every sentence in the book was a question? She was obviously capable of actual sentences, since the acknowledgements were perfectly fine. Almost stopped listening because of her reading? Story was so-so. Feminist agenda was pushed way too hard, in-your-face style. Not that the points weren’t true. It just all felt so heavy handed. Book was way too long. So glad to be done with this book.

A well written book that leans more heavily on the family drama than the mystery. It’s too long and the ending was bad, but I enjoyed spending time with the family and their interpersonal relationships. Nothing amazing, but not bad either.
emotional mysterious

Characters written with such nuance. Her take on relationships, especially marriage, was thoughtful and seemed thoroughly researched.

Dysfunctional tennis-obsessed family report their mother missing. Has Joy been murdered by her husband? And what’s going on with their weird lodger that no one liked?

This was ENTIRELY too long (by the end I was at 2x speed) but not completely unenjoyable (that’s almost a pun (on the main characters name)). If this book was half the length, maybe it would’ve been worth the time investment… alas! Overall it was okay, but I wouldn’t recommend anyone else wasting their time on it.

Too much “filler” not enough action. Too much tennis. Twist wasn’t shocking enough (it wasn’t shocking at all. It was a let down).

I liked the characters, and the (weird) final chapter.
