Look, I love a good zombie apocalypse story. But mixing Twilight with The Walking Dead isn’t necessarily the best idea…
Mary is one of those stubborn, one-track-minded girlies that’s really stuck in her head. A lot of tragic things happen that stems from her inability to consider others with compassion and respect. You could argue that she’s a consequence of the religious cult-like village she grew up in, but I’d argue that she has a penchant for selfishness despite her circumstances.
Flawed characters aside, the bursts of action were fantastic. As a reader, I was pulled into those moments and felt the panic and horror of the disasters unleashed on the characters. It’s what kept me going, to be honest.
Can we talk about the infant scene? I feel like that perfectly represents what I mean about Mary. Also, ISH.
The fact that it happened and then was never brought up again… I don’t even know what they were all thinking when keeping it in. So unnecessary.
Also why did Travis and Mary DO NOTHING aside from exist when in the big house together???? I get it allows for Travis to insist she find the ocean when they escape the fire, but SERIOUSLY? They only work as a couple when Travis is at death’s door, apparently. Even a scene of them finding a scrabble game and playing it or something would have done wonders for their chemistry. ~sigh~
This is exactly why I have to rate it higher than just 2 stars. This shit made me ponder and reflect as a human and a writer and a reader. I’m going to need a palette cleanser after now.

I never read this when it was published a long time ago (I think I was in high school when this was out on bookshelves) but I randomly found this in my library’s shelves & thought oh ! Let me see if this was worth the hype a long time ago. Sadly, for me, it was not. I feel like there were too many subplots and not enough wrap up / closure for those plot lines. The Sisterhood came and went. How far away were they from the ocean? Where did these zombies come from ? It was too confusing for me. Plus, the characters didn’t seem distinct or have their own personality traits to make them stand out.
