I liked it enough, but it wont be remembered as a favorite. Another reviewer likened it to a Lifetime movie, and I’d say that is accurate. It was an easy read with enough suspense to keep me engaged until the end.
An Amazon Prime First Read.

Excellent. Welcome to dysfunctional family 9.5. You grow to love these characters and cheer them on. And Maisey definitely has ADHD. Lol
I am just amazed at how beautiful and heart-wrenching this story is. I got it as an Amazon First Reads a while back. I kept putting off reading it because, honestly, I just didn't like the cover. Loa. But I am very happy I finally gave it the time of day!
This book is about women who overcame abusive relationships and the struggle they went through to get there. For someone who had a relationship that was heading in the direction, I very much can verify some of the emotions these girls went through. Thankfully, I had a father who had taught me self-worth and I was able to remove myself before things got this bad.
For those of you who have never understood why women stay in abusive relationships, I would highly recommend reading this book. It brought me even more clarification to something I have sought to understand in the past.

I want to start out by noting that if domestic violence isn't for you than put this book down. We are introduce to a thoroughly put together set of characters as the story develops.
This novel provides a strong female lead who travels back home because her mother is in a coma. We are thrown in for a ride with uncovers family secrets and betrayals. True to the genre category this book held up on it's own and we get to see a different personal take to a all to similar plot.
Thank you Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for this E-ARC!

1.5 stars rounded up.
Trigger warnings definitely needed for domestic violence and substance abuse along with neglect.
The writer has great technique and her literary skills can’t be denied, which is why this is rated more than 1 star for me. I thought this would be a gripping thriller, but it really was just a long winded unraveling of overcoming childhood trauma and violence. There are glimmers of hope sprinkled throughout the text, but ultimately I was left feeling drowned out by the drawn out storyline. I guess I came into this book holding different expectations of what the journey would be like. It was definitely predictable in the end, which was also a bit of a let down.
Probably won’t be reading anymore of this author’s work.

Waaaaaay better than I thought it’d be. Definitely strong writing and I loved feeling like I was really there experiencing things with Maisey. I wanted everything good for her and her family. A very strong, emotional book.
This was a heavier read than I thought it would be but it was well done. I really enjoyed the cast of characters, particularly Elle. There were some moments that I found to be a little too didactic and some of the character’s choices seemed far-fetched (I’m also not one for romance plots) but the story’s threads were brought together cohesively. I think it’s also the the book’s credit that I stayed up till 2 am reading!
This book is crazy but it captivates readers enough to make you see it through. It does wrap up nicely and leaves readers feeling all warm and fuzzy about the wonderful life you hope the characters get in the end.
On the same vein as Big Little Lies without a twist.
