The pen is mightier than the sword and the imagination is a powerful thing as Author Ian Ludlow and Margo French, his researcher-turned-spy prove in Fake Truth the latest in the Ian Ludlow Thrillers by Lee Goldberg. This is high energy, clever and tons of fun. I really enjoyed this fast paced, witty romp taken straight from today’s headlines and anxiously await Ian and Margo’s next adventure.

this was great

I’ve read his first two Ian Ludlow books and enjoyed them, even though parts are unrealistic. It’s fiction it’s allowed. I really enjoyed this one as well. Well written and plenty of excitement

Halfway through this book, the third starring Ian Ludlow, I already recognized it as the best one in the series. The story shows a natural growth from the second one, which also built upon the first. This time, the hero doesn't have a book he's working on that happens to coincide with a nefarious real-world plot, as was the case with the prior two novels. In fact, he has writer's block and has to be encouraged to go on a research trip, where the CIA hopes his instincts will uncover another conspiracy. With this series so far, Goldberg deftly avoids formulaic trappings that can plague a series, managing to keep me fully interested, and excited for the next entry. Not only that, but the writing has matured a bit from Killer Thriller, with many fewer groan-inducing lines this time. I believe that style comes from Goldberg treating these books more like action comedies than his last book, the also-excellent Lost Hills (the first in a different series), and the sophomoric lines describing various villains' habits or bodily functions are intended to be funny. I just don't personally like that style of humor, so I was happy to encounter less of it this go-round.

Utterly ridiculous & funny. It felt very relevant, with conspiracy theories & fake news being treated as the truth, but this was so over the top - if my eyes rolled any harder, they would roll out of my head. However, there were so many funny lines, I did laugh a lot.

Thanks to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A tongue in cheek thriller that wasn’t my cup of tea but would definitely appeal to those who enjoy satire. Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for the arc.

In this 3rd book of the series, the author Ian Ludlow returns to write some bizarre thrillers which have an uncanny ability to turn into reality. This is over-the-top (I have used this phrase in the review of all three books but I can't find a better word for this)
Lee Goldberg blatantly does a mishmash of all Bond movies AND Mission Impossible. I haven't watched any of those movies, but the plot he describes is hilarious.
The conspiracy theory seems ridiculous but some of them made me uncomfortable - like fake news to destabilize USA so that Russia can avoid NATO retaliation when they attack Georgia and later Ukraine ! (This book was published in 2020)
These books are a great stress buster, I only hope his plots don't turn out be true.

Ian Ludlow books are ridiculous in the way that James Bond is ridiculous. If you're in the mood for that, great. Do not read if you are looking for realism in your books. Escapism, yes. Realism, no.

Lots of satire. I did chuckle every 10 pages or so.

Not sure why no date read, but I'm adding one now, 6/18/2022
