So this book is nothing at all. I like the characters and the writing and that's my rating all about. This first part of the book it was a lot of action, but they took too long to get things done.
And then in that town nothing happen, besides Lee stupid mistake. He broke my heart.
The goal of this book was to stall.

5-Word Review: (for the series)
Tense, gripping, suspenseful, teenage heroism

Memorable Quotes
"In the Bible it says Hell is a place of heat and fire. This is officially called Hell – that’s the name on the maps – and it does get hot in summer. But when a storm drops on top of us, it’s hypothermia country and the temperature can fall fifteen degrees in half an hour."

"If only we could have carried on the way we used to, watching other people’s wars on television."

"Sometimes there aren’t any questions any more. Sometimes there’s nothing to debate. If we have any choice at all, it might be as simple as this: to die fighting or to die as cowards. Not much of a choice, I agree, but if that’s the way it is, I know which I prefer."

"Imagination and memory had become enemies. Before the war they had been my friends."

"It’s not an easy thing to face your own death. Not when you’re feeling young and alive and healthy."

"...I had to live or die on the decision I was about to make."

"I could never quite get used to Fi holding a rifle. It was like Homer holding a Barbie doll."

"I had to assume she knew what I meant, because there was no time to confirm it, no time for anything now except killing and dying."

"I took a quick look at Lee. He looked calm and beautiful."

"...the dump truck was a bit like the kind of person Homer had become. Solid and dependable and strong."

"It was the most primitive feeling I’ve ever had. It went further back than primitive: it was primeval. I was cave-woman swinging the club around my head and charging at the jackals and hyenas."

"Funny really, nothing about Wirrawee was wild or dramatic or spectacular, before the war I mean. We were such a quiet part of the world. Most people in our district didn’t care what was going on anywhere else. They just wanted to be left alone, so they could live their lives."

"The blackberries were the worst. They always seem like they’re out to get you. It’s personal with blackberries. I hate them."

"So many things had changed that I clung even harder to the few things that hadn’t."

"I was simmering already; he was as cool as a mouthful of Minties."

I had been burning for revenge for a long time, and now I was going to do some real burning, to get them back for all they'd done to us.

wow, this series just gets more intense and more amazing with each book. You get to the know the land, the characters and the events so well. I keep having to remind myself 'this didn't really happen, this didn't really happen'.

Another good entry in the series, although I'm happy there are only two more left as this was definitely the weakest book so far. Still strong, but minor annoyances from the previous books are beginning to grate a little.

After the failed bombing of the airbase in the last book, the gang find themselves in the 'unlucky' position of getting taken into the base while hiding in the back of a truck from some troops, suffice to say, craziness ensues. The attack on the base, is as always with this series, very tense and the action flows extremely well...with about a hundred pages dedicated to pure action.

Previous little annoyances are starting to rear their head though, a lot of what these kids do is based on luck, and it's getting to the point where they are seeming 'too' lucky for it to be believable, Lee's 'other woman' was also quite stupid, especially since it seems very out of character and hardly any page time was really dedicated to it. Also, annoying bloody orphans, which I'm told appear in the next book. Bad times.

The second half of this series is so weirdly paced. I'm not certain the author had a plan beyond drawing it out and getting them from point A to point B. It's just structurally so odd. I didn't hate this book, though. It was quick and entertaining and I had plenty of fun.
