I'm torn with this review. I read the book in 1 sitting. I enjoyed the book. However, I felt no sympathy for her whatsoever. If this country is called "hell on earth" and your own country advises you to 'seize travel' and you don't, then you deserve everything coming to you for your stupidity.

It was a good read. A good story. I just have absolutely no sympathy.

Incredible writing, even more incredible story. I will never not think about Amanda and her strength despite everything she went through.

A difficult, heartbreaking read. Definitely not for the faint of heart. Fascinating and disturbing in equal measure.

Needed to know what happened, but the whole time I was judging the author's poor safety choices.

Probably one of the hardest books I've ever read. Lindhout's recount of her time as a victim of kidnapping in Somalia is as harrowing as it is inspirational. To think that this could have happened to someone who lives so close to where we do (Calgary) makes it hit home all the harder.
