I’m not really drawn to memoirs so I was unsure if I would like this book but wow. What Amanda went through and survived blows my mind, I can’t even fathom surviving this kind of situation for over a year. The writing and storytelling was amazing, especially how her captors were humanized as both individuals doing wrong but also products of the unstable environment they’ve grown up in. Overall just an incredible book, I’d give it 6 stars if I could

I listened to the audiobook. At first I was put off by the author’s voice but soon I realized I was listening to the actual human who endured the captivity she was describing, and my heart softened toward her voice. This story is horrible, distressing, and sickening. But Amanda remained full of hope, and that has stuck with me.
