Beautiful Day by Elin Hildenbrand
Have read the author's other works and love her style, always a good read. This one is also one of those.
The family will be gathering for the wedding on the island. I found so much of this book to be truly funny as to the things that happen.
With that many people from the same family together there is bound to be some mishaps. Jenna's mother had left a note because she had died and wanted the perfect day for her daughter. She wrote down what tie to wear and every little detail. Now to follow it to the letter.
Each chapter begins with a page from the notebook that Jenna's mother Beth, had written-notes on the wedding. Loved hearing of the different relatives relationships with one another, comparing them to my own.
Everything is planned as time goes on everything seems to go wrong. Love laughing and crying with it all.. Loved all the old music that I grew up on.
Lots of characters but it's easy to keep track of who is who. Touching moments of the past life's.
I received this book from Libbio via the author in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. The writing is nice and light and it's a great summer read. Who I didn't like was Doug and Beth. I know that I'm supposed to be sad that Beth is writing from her deathbed but her exacting detail about the wedding was just too much. Poor Jenna who couldn't pick anything for herself. Doug is a bit of a douche who I know misses his wife but is acting more like he is going through a mid life crisis. Are we supposed to not like Pauline? I felt sorry for her! Anyway, good book with a couple characters that irritated me but not enough to give less than 4 stars.
I read this book last year, when it was called "Seating Arrangements" and was written by Maggie Shipstead. Actually, this book really outshines that one in every regard except the cover and title, which are both dreadful.
These characters are pleasantly complicated, the wedding is interesting, the plot contrivance pleasant though very contrived, and I appreciated the points of view through which the author chose to tell the story.
One tiny quibble: what were the "outtakes"? was this some kind of like, word documentary? It was weird, bc while it was told from multiple viewpoints, the outtakes are from EVERY viewpoint. I guess my question is, outtakes from what?

Truly a 4.5 stars. A perfect Elin novel. Well defined characters and detailed settings. Plenty of drama. The Elin staples of cancer and infidelity and a odd dose at the end of body judgement but I’ve come to expect that now and none of those staples took this book into melodrama. Also I’m hungry I’m always hungry reading Elin novels. I can taste the cocktails and the lobster.
this was the first book i’ve ever read of elin’s. i love a good chick lit book, but this was more realistic and not so cheesy. it was very well written and flowed really well.
Smuk fortælling om hvad der skulle være det perfekte bryllup, men ender ud i en stor families op og nedture, drama og en altoverskyggende kærlighed, der alligevel sejrer i sidste ende. Dejlig hjertevarm fortælling.
