Beautiful Day

Wow. I disliked pretty much every character in this book. Including the dead mom.

Another great visit to Nantucket. I want to visit Nantucket so badly, especially after finishing another Hilderbrand book.

I have always enjoyed "wedding-themed" books and this novel was no exception. Although I agree with some of the reviewers when they say that the characters seemed one-dimensional and we never really got to know them that well.

Spoiler

I wasn't bothered by the fact that the Notebook played such a big part in this novel. I think that Jenna could have picked and chose to incorporate the parts of her wedding that her mother suggested. I thought the idea of the Notebook was sad - but seeing Beth's idea of the perfect wedding come together in the end it was actually really sweet.

I wasn't thrown by all of the characters, but was surprised that the bride (Jenna) didn't really have a main part in the story.

This was another great book by Hilderbrand, and she will continue to be my favorite "summertime author".

This is the first book I've read by Elin Hilderbrand. Thank you Ashley! I see how her books could become dangerously addicting! But looks like I won't be able to feed my desire to binge read because everything is checked out from public library, including the Large Print! The fact that she teaches fiction at University of Iowa makes me feel not so guilty. ;)

I had a hard time finishing this, but did because I am listening to all of Elin’s books in order. I think the main problem is the narrator, but the notebook is also awful. It’s mostly inner dialogue of unhappy people being annoying, not much of the usual island life stuff. But maybe if I’d just read it (instead of listened) I would have been less irked. Maybe.

3.5 stars rounded to 4. While I loved the story of the wedding and the glimpses into the lives of many characters, I could not stand the parts that featured The Notebook. In all honesty, I feel the The Notebook would have been a more suitable named title, but then people would get it confused with Nicholas Sparks’ book by the same name.

A totally typical Elin Hilderbrand, down to the Nantucket setting.

Ok, but not my favorite. The Notebook written by the dead mother was an annoying detail to me. I just kept thinking how controlling and “passive-aggressive” the mother was in death.

Good book, lightweight story, but made me want to go back to Nantucket!
