Easy read with some great characters but some of the different stories behind those characters seemed slightly rushed. There was so much emphasis on the notebook within the book that at the end, I felt somewhat letdown with that connecting factor and feel like the whole plot regarding the relationship with the mother was not given enough room to breathe. Perhaps if one of the other side plots was given up, the. plot regarding the mother could have been honored more but honestly, I feel like it should have been wiped completely and the focus should have been on all the funny, quirky happenings around the wedding.
This was the fast paced, multi-layer story I’ve been craving lately. I loved reading about the Carmichael’s.
I do have to rant about how much the dead mother’s “notebook” annoyed me. From the beginning, we know that the bride followed her mother’s instructions for her wedding to a t, and it’s not fair that she wasn’t able to make her own decisions. Every time an entry from the notebook popped up, with the passive aggressive instructions, it ground my gears. This woman planned a hideous wedding in 2006, and the bride had to follow it in 2013, because the GUILT she would feel if she didn’t would be unreal!

So everyone loves Elin Hilderbrand and I just don’t get it. Beautiful Day is the second book I’ve read by her.
Trigger Warnings: Death of a Family Member, Infidelity
There are 17 storylines going on at once and very little was ever resolved. None of the characters were truly like able. The author was sure to share their flaws up front and continuously had other people judging them. Nobody liked each other in this book - they all need to go to therapy. She didn’t even allow us to enjoy the wedding that was being built up to. Also there is too much cheating on people in this book for me - I personally cannot stand storylines involving infidelity especially when it is introduced as a character trait or to move the story along.
There were a few redeeming moments. I did enjoy the father and his character was the only one who you really felt bad for in some situations.
I won’t be recommending this book to most people.

I really enjoyed this book. The writing is nice and light and it's a great summer read. Who I didn't like was Doug and Beth. I know that I'm supposed to be sad that Beth is writing from her deathbed but her exacting detail about the wedding was just too much. Poor Jenna who couldn't pick anything for herself. Doug is a bit of a douche who I know misses his wife but is acting more like he is going through a mid life crisis. Are we supposed to not like Pauline? I felt sorry for her! Anyway, good book with a couple characters that irritated me but not enough to give less than 4 stars.
Beautiful Day
Elin Hilderbrand.
A summer wedding stirs up trouble on both sides of the family in this new novel.
The Carmichaels and Grahams have gathered on Nantucket for a wedding. Plans are being made according to the wishes of the bride's late mother, who left behind The Notebook: specific instructions for every detail of her youngest daughter's future nuptials. Everything should be falling into place for the beautiful event--but in reality, things are far from perfect.
While the couple-to-be are quite happy, their loved ones find their own lives crumbling. In the days leading up to the wedding, love will be questioned, scandals will arise, and hearts will be broken and healed.
Fun, rapid read. Descriptions of Nantucket make me want to visit.
A summer wedding in Nantucket brings together two families and all their drama. With a special feature being a notebook directing the wedding in detail from the brides deceased beloved mother. The Notebook is quoted throughout the book like a trusty bible of love from the revered mom. Affairs, lies, betrayals, alliances all take place in the one weekend. Very soap operaish.
