So this book is mostly about pretentious rich people which always bothers me because I can't relate at all. HOWEVER, Elin Hildebrand is an excellent writer. I have never read her before and I am tempted to read her again because, according to many reviews, this is the worst of her books and it wasn't too bad. I did enjoy her writing style (detailed, beautiful descriptions, many voices, many points of view) and am interested to see what a "good" book of hers is like. All that said, it is a book about manipulation, infidelity, shame, revenge, and cowardice, all negative attributes, so I give it an overall negative review. Actually, I rounded up to 3 stars, it should be 2.5. My two favorite aspects of this book are Beth Carmichael's affinity for rock-n-roll (she and I seem to share many favorite songs, though I am the age of her children, not her), if this ever becomes a movie, I shall see it just to hear the soundtrack alone; and the last page of the notebook, which describes, sappily enough, my marriage to my husband, with whom, after 22 years, I am still madly in love. So, two stars for each of those things, and .5 for the audio which was absolutely great!! So glad I listened to it instead of read it, so I could clean and garden and sew, and still get this book in. Advanced technology is a beautiful thing.
Fine beach read in which I could appreciate the bougie Nantucket types for what they were - warts and all - but hoo boy did I find the deceased mother increasingly irritating with every chapter of the notebook!
Ugh. So disappointing after The Blue Bistro and Summerland. Could not finish it...

Fabulous. Elin Hilderbrand is such a talented author. I've always loved books about weddings, I think they make the perfect summer reads. This book took that to a whole new level. It was one of those stories where everything that could go wrong did and more. The beautiful island of Nantucket with loads of family drama. I truly enjoyed every minute of it and constantly wanted to know how the characters could possibly make things better. My favorite part of this book was the ending. It wasn't a fairy tale ending, it was real. I like that.
This book is not going to change anyone's life, but it's a well-written novel about the romantic troubles of a few privileged people in a privileged place. Perfect beach read (or perfect for a day when you wish you were at the beach.)

Insane as usual tale of a wedding where everything can and does happen! Love, out of love and all the usual and unusual emotions come together and apart. A wonderful summer novel from the Nantucket expert. Loved it of course. Great thoughts to add to anyone's feelings.
I’ve been reading Elin’s books for years and every time I read a new one I’m pleasantly surprised, shocked, and taken on a ride. Beautiful Day is no exception. The twist at the bonfire, the family dynamics, and questioning love kept me hooked. I’m already trying to figure out which I read next.
