It took me a while to get into this one. The main characters felt very similar in terms of theme to The House in the Cerulean Sea (bureacrats, sensitive healer in control, right hand female, damaged soul who happens upon them). However, this one didn’t have the same level of humor—so while I ended up liking it—suggest The House in the Cerulean Sea over this one.

An interesting tale about the in-between ... a purgatory-esque time that is spent in a teashop where you make amens with your death before moving on. Wallace was not a good person on earth... but he seems to have found his groove in between.

This book made me want to chew through drywall until I reached the outside (this is a compliment).

My gosh, this is the book that has made me cry the most in 2024 (so far). I love the found family, addressing different aspects of death and the processing it. It made me appreciate life more for sure.
