This series was a childhood favourite of mine and I'm glad I revisited it. It is a beautiful and inspiring story about a smart little girl who's slowly becoming a young woman. Anne of Green Gables contains a strong female friendship, desire for knowledge, beautiful nature and lots of love towards people and life of any form.
The ending is heartbreakingly beautiful. After about twenty years (since my dad first read it to me) I still love this little girl, but my favourite charecter will forever will be Matthew, who - now I rralize - is surprisingly similar to my own father.

Wow. I can't believe it's taken me this long to read this book. I loved it! It's a simple story, a romantic view of the past in a little bubble of Prince Edward Island. Anne is such a relatable character (especially young Anne), even now. She is a kindred spirit! I felt connected to all the characters, save the few near the end when she went to Queen's. They were all alive in my mind (and still are) and I felt I knew them as people.
I immensely enjoyed the rich descriptions of nature throughout the book. I mostly listened to the audiobook version, read by Shelly Frasier, on walks through a wooded area to work. I was transported into the story this way, seeing the green life around me and hearing about Anne's world. Listening to the story was grounding, it made me want to study the world with the intensity and beauty of L.M. Montgomery's writing.
I will be sure to continue with this series, I think I have to read them all now!

A delightful book. I guess we must make some leeway for the morals imbued in this novel, since it's been 150 years since the book has been published. The weird XIX century English lit fixation with orphans aside, Anne... is a delightful book that clearly holds a dear place in many young and older readers alike. I can understand how, if I was a child, to be enthrailed with the adventurous spirit of the red-haired girl (although I can't understand for the life of me what's the darn issue with having ginger hair). Still, is a lighthearted book with just the "right" ammount of sadness and growing up to do that can lead children to the realization that life does need to move on, and not all is sunshine and rainbows. But they don't need to fear the road of life with its many miles to walk on. Because there can always be bends on it, and we can always believe they will lead to something better.

The cast for this audiobooks is amazing, especially Mary Kate Wiles as Anne and Dylan Saunders as Matthew.
