This is the first true enemies to lovers that I've really, really enjoyed. The dialogue was amazing, the characters were delightful, and the conflict wasn't annoying. The two reasons that this isn't a 5-star is the pretty blatant fatphobia and an instance of ableism.

If you have the UK version of this book, then you’ll see that it has the r-slur on page 358. Would not recommend, love interest is very creepy as well. Read ✨any other book✨ and it will be better than this. There are so many other enemies to lovers books out there.

For an enemies to lovers book they didnt really hate each other at any point. It just felt like Lucy had this unjustifiable irritation towards Josh.
Which was kind of made obvious when she said at the end of Chapter 1 she wishes they could be friends
The beginning was probably the best part as the dynamics felt somewhat interesting but the second half had too much repetition of words/statements/kind of scenes to be engaging. There wasnt a definitive end of the 2nd  act. There were so many loose ends; the ex best friend, what happened with the job (the thing they had this rivalry fueled by).
they do say josh resigned and took himself out of the running but because the job was a big plot device it wasnt finished properly
The sex scenes were ok nothing to write home about. The whole book just felt lackluster

character-wise: Lucy felt like one of those women who infantilise themselves for men. whenever she would be self-deprecating by saying she was pathetic i couldnt help but agree. Josh was bordering on being a dickhead/hot angst but the way he was described by the author as almost murderous beyond the serial killer eyes thing disturbed me. They  both kept too many tabs on each other when they hated each other that it was freaky/ bordering on stalkery.

Last thing; stop using the r slur.

I usually pick up contemporary romance when I'm in a reading slump or I want a fast and fun read. Given that, I find that I enjoy the regular tropes and plot devices that are regularly used in this genre. In The Hating Game, Sally Thorne employs a number of this tropes (tiny woman - giant man, enemies to lover, office romance, hard guy is actually a softie etc etc etc), but I enjoy those aspects so it was a plus for me. I also liked how they didn't dance around each other due to too many miscommunication and other temporarily love interests (though there's a bit of both). All in all, it was an enjoyable read, and I raced through it. The rating is due to the fact that it doesn't add anything new to the genre or to the tropes that were used. The "big conflict" was also incredibly predictable and the build-up was therefore understandably anticlimactic.

Repetitive, uses a lot of the same descriptors over and over, uses offensive language, falls into patriarchal themes, has weird diet-culture-y descriptors of food. Enjoyable but glad I didn’t pay money to read it

the language used in the novel is also kinda problematic
when explaining what the mc's 'love interests' desk looked like, it said
'it was a masculine version of mine, all blue'.
gendering colour and then the author says how his home is so feminine?
please this author is kinda shit.
and theres ableism, fatphobia.
and the characters are spoilt and such obnoxious characters.
