Catrina was nowhere to be seen.

Pamela Paterson lives in small town Arborville, New Jersey where she started the Knit and Nibble group. She runs into an o;d friend at the grocery and invites her for the evening's meeting. The friend never shows for the meeting but is found in Pamela's bushes later that evening with a knitting needle in her chest. So begins the sleuthing.

This is a very nice start to the series. The characters are well written and believeable. The mystery is good and takes a few twists and turns along the way. I was surprised at the killer although clues were presented.

Pamela edits craft magazine articles which I found interesting. What a great job! Well, for a crafter. I would have liked to hear a bit more about that aspect of her life.

I could go on and on talking about wool and yarn. The mystery yarn in the victim's belongings was intriguing. I enjoyed the trip to the yarn shop in New York.

The victim had a number of people that were unhappy with her. That left the field of suspects wide open. I was pleased when each one was eliminated as a potential killer.

The little black kitten that visits Pamela's porch is a sweet addition. Two of my favorite things: cats and yarn. I'm looking forward to see how Catrina grows.

A very pleasant afternoon read. I look forward to the next book.

There’s a good amount of potential here but the super cheesy murderer really turned me off.

This book caught my eye at my local library because I’m a knitter, a baker, I love cats, and mystery is my favourite genre. Felt like it was a series made for me! I enjoyed the story overall and found it an easy read. I loved the knitting club meetings and the descriptions of the baking and food being prepared.

There wasn’t anything gripping or shocking about the mystery and that was a bit disappointing but I’ve decided not to take it that seriously. The characters referenced made for tv mysteries a few times and the story definitely felt like a hallmark series. So it was fun and as lighthearted as a cheesy murder mystery could be.

I will say with the writing there were a few details the author added in that felt like she was just trying to up the word count or something. One example that sticks out in my mind is when Pamela and her friend are getting into the car, her friend gets into the drivers seat and then Pamela asks her to unlock her passenger door and that’s how the chapter ends.. why not just say they got in the car? Seems like a detail trying to add depth to the story but instead missed the mark and took me out of it and that was a theme with many (in my opinion) unnecessary details throughout the book. But once I accepted that that’s how the author writes I learned to ignore it and it wasn’t too bad.

Even with those few little things I did enjoy reading the book, it was a fun short escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series to see what Pamela gets up to next and to hear more about Catrina!

I was attracted by the cover, so aww! The book is good, a well written mystery with a lot of twist and very interesting and well developed characters.
A great start for a new series.
Even it's a bit slow at the beginning once the murder takes place it becomes a real page turner, couldn't let it down. It kept me guessing till the end.
I'm curious to know what the next developments will be and look forward to the next instalment.
Many thanks to Kensington Books and Netgalley

This was a cute little cozy. As I am a newbie #knitteroflitsy I enjoyed the knitting scenes & as a #hookeroflitsy I liked that they had a crocheter in their group. The murders were interesting & each suspect was eliminated logically. It moved a bit slowly but I did not mind. One weird thing - how much toast can Pamela eat?!? She seems to lives on

I'm a sucker for this particular genre of mystery--the type with lots of descriptions of what people are eating and wearing, and with a knitting pattern and a recipe included at the end. The writing itself was quite clean, almost to the point of being too spartan. There really was no distinctive authorial voice; the events and dialogue are delivered in a manner I can only describe as deadpan. At first, this struck me as "blah" but as the story went on it lent a sort of cinematic immediacy that I ended up liking. In general, this is preferable to writing that tries to be too clever and ends up being merely obnoxious and syrupy. The mystery itself hit all the right notes for me: all the clues were available to the reader, unlike many mysteries that depend largely on keeping the reader ignorant to maintain the tension, and the critical clue was actually related to yarn, meaning that the yarn-obsessed protagonist was realistically able to out-sleuth the police. Very nice. I'm looking forward to the next installment in the series. My only complaint is that the knitting pattern included was only the simple garter stitch scarf, and not the Argyle socks I was hoping for. Perhaps the author would consider including two patterns next time--a beginner one and an advanced one? Pretty please?

A very cozy read. I really enjoyed the whole world built in this book: the group of friends, the knitting, the baking of tasty treats, the taming of the feral black kitten.... Okay, yes, there are a couple of murders in there, but overall they didn't detract from the pleasant feelings the book brought up, like stepping into a warm bath. I'm not sure I quite believed the denouement, when the killer is revealed, it felt a little abrupt and out of left field for me, but I still plan on reading more of the series when I want a more leisurely read.

The cat and the dog were the best characters. This was the first time I've read a cozy mystery and thought the main character was being a noisy busybody.
