4.5 stars. This was a great book! I recommend reading the novella before this. The book hits the ground running with ONP's archeologist Audrey Kendrick going to check on her cameras that went down, right as SEAL Xavier Rivera's training exercise is about to start. The two previously had a one night stand but Xavier betrayed Audrey causing her to almost lose her job. Soon they realize the training exercise has been compromised and everyone is in danger.
This book was fast paced and Rachel Grant did a great job with describing the setting, I had a blast picturing everything going on while reading. The book is a real page turner and whenever I had free time I found myself wanting to sit down and read. I found myself concerned for the safety of everyone in the seal teams as well as and rooting for them to survive. Audrey was a smart and capable heroine and I appreciated that Xavier could admit he was wrong and what he did to her was messed up.
I had concerns because one of my least favorite tropes was in this book, but Rachel did a pretty good job with it. Both characters do question a bit if it's just everything happening and the adrenaline bringing them together and I appreciated that.
The only reason this isn't a 5 star for me are just some personal preference things, but I would recommend this book. I have been on a Rachel Grant kick lately and I can't wait for the next book in this series.

I really enjoyed this one! I was pulled in from beginning to end by these characters and the story starts off with a bang pretty quickly. We get introduced to Audrey as she is headed into the national park to check on cameras that went down over an archaeology site that was looted a few months ago. We get some of the story about what is going on with her and Xavier since she is pregnant on this road, in the dark with a storm coming in and the proposed SEAL training exercise. An exercise that she didn't know was happening that night and the upcoming week. Xavier is at the lodge and can't believe Audrey is there when he tackles/takes down what he thought was an intruder and someone coming to protest/stop the training. Quickly after that, they figure out that something isn't right and they have to come together in order to survive, figure out what is going on, and help the other trainers and SEALS that are there with no idea about this training going very sideways and quickly turning into a mission of survival. There is plenty of action and intrigue as we watch our characters try and navigate this rainforest in a storm, with hostiles and very little equipment and weapons to defend themselves. We watch Audrey and Xavier still have that deep connection but after what happened they need to rebuild that trust between them in order to survive and see if there can be more between them. This story kept me engaged between needing to know what was going to happen next with the hostiles and figuring out what was going on with the SEALS and what was happening relationship wise with Audrey and Xavier. I thought it was blended really well together. The story had a great pace and kept things moving without it being too fast. I truly enjoyed this one and can't wait for the next in the series and will definitely be reading that one and checking out more books by Rachel Grant.
I listened to the story and thought that the narrators did a fantastic job with the voices and characters and really bringing the story to life. They shared emotion and had the different voices for all. It was a great added dynamic for this story.

Entertaining and emotional. The characters felt like shallow tropes though.

The archaeologist at Olympic National Forest finds herself stranded during a storm in the middle of a Navy SEAL training exercise that goes wrong and becomes deadly. These aren’t my favorite sub-genre of romance just due to personal preference. The romance is usually backburner, there are multiple POV’s to build the story, and I’m bad with names and I get lost. That being said, Rachel Grant does it so well. You are dropped in the middle of this world and given some back story to catch up. Things unravel pretty quickly and it’s pretty fast paced. I think she balances the romance pretty well even though it's not the focus until the HEA. I appreciate the level of emotional maturity in her characters.
