Nine books in and this is still one of my favorite series. I am late in reading this book because I hadn’t realized it came out a few years ago. And now I don’t have to wait very long until the next one.

I love the very short conversation Peter had with his mother when he was near the end of the case. His mom was right, of course. Without spoilers, that’s all I can say.

I thought that the birth scene was going to be rushed to make it fit in the last chapter. It wasn’t - it was very beautiful, and I felt there was enough room for that part of the story. I’d been waiting for that scene since the end of the last book!

I enjoyed this book more than the prior book in the series, perhaps because it was more linear.    It was nice to see Peter thinking about information sharing and allies.   Still love the foxes.
It makes sense that the end game is at least in part for Nightingale to retire, but I'll really miss him.  I still want to know more about his time during the war.
I also liked that we got some additional information about the other magic societies. I hope we see more of them.
