Vaughn & Lenny:)
...I knew Vaughn’s story would be epic but WOW!! Leigh you have out done yourself. Vaughn’s raw emotions dealing with his past are gut wrenching. As a parent I am totally on board with how Vicious & Emilia dealt with what they learned...Can I nominate Vicious for father of the century?!

This was a hard one to rate. I had higher expectations for Angry God, but I enjoyed the suspenseful nature of the book.
I think the real problem is that I didn’t care for Vaughn, the main protagonist who is the son of Vicious and Emelia Spencer. L.J. Shen is a master at making me fall in love with anti-heroes, but Vaughn is so incredibly cruel to Lenny and it never made sense to me. Ultimately, I just didn’t feel his behavior toward her was justified and it was difficult for me to believe Vaughn’s later claims that he was drawn to her from the moment they met. Perhaps that’s why I didn’t connect with them as a couple.
Lenny is a bit of an odd duck, but I liked her I-don’t-give-a-crap attitude and her confidence. Her ability to go toe to toe with Vaughn makes her one tough cookie. I also admired her loyalty to her sister. I could tell early on the root cause of Vaughn’s demons. It was really nice to witness an older but no-less intimidating Vicious as a protective father.
There’s a hodgepodge of haphazard plot developments crammed in towards the end that aren’t fully fleshed out – Lenny’s nemesis, her dad’s motivations, bribery. I wish they had been more developed and better integrated into the story.
For me, this wasn’t L.J. Shen’s best work. However, if bad boys, angst, and semi-dark romances are your thing I suspect you will enjoy it more than I did.
About the audiobook.
Jacob Morgan never lets me down and this book is no exception. His Vaughn is detached, angry, confident, sexy, and gritty. Kylie Scott is a new-to-me narrator and I really liked her portrayal of Lenny. Extra points for her posh British accent. However, her Vaughn is cringe worthy. She sounds like a pre-pubescent boy rather than dangerous, sexy man. The good definitely outweighs the bad, though.

Dang Vaughn is nothing that you were expecting at all. He is such a complex character that make you want to bill back all his layer to find the real him.
Oh bejesus. I've put off reading/listening to this b/c I knew it would hurt. Hurt it did. I got go f'ing frustrating. I was texting with a friend who had read it on release day.
Ok Vaughn you are very much as frustrating as your dad. I was never a Vicious fan. But Vicious as a dad is such a beautiful thing.
UGH!!! Read the damn book. Break like I did. Be repaired like I did.

Angry God is the third book in the All Saints High series, but it can be read as a standalone.
LJ Shen sure knows how to write angsty, messy characters, and this was no exception.
Vaughn Spencer and Lenora both had anger in them, and they clashed a lot. But under that anger was a world of pain, especially for Vaughn.
Lenora was so strong. Always giving back what was thrown at her. Never giving in to the threats, the taunts, the cruelty from others. She could hold her own.
Vaughn. Oh, how my heart broke for this boy. He was awful, but he had every right to be. He was damaged and broken, but he had such a big heart. His backstory

I loved this book! I so glad we finally learned why Vaughn acted the way he did so much throughout the first two books. I loved the backstory between them and seeing how they grew into themselves and their relationship. And I’m so glad we were able to see just how sweet Vaughn is.
Oh my little Vaughn!! How I adore you! So sad to see the end of the kids! But oh what a way to go!
Len, you are the perfect kick ass heroine and a freaking match for our Angry God!
Read it now people!!

I like how it's different from anything I have read. It's dark, twisted, and weird at times but that's why I like it. It's not vanilla like other romance novels. The last half of the book is when things got really good. I was up until 3AM to finish this novel. I have to admit there were times when things got so overly dramatic and unbelievable that it puts Gossip Girl to shame. Overall I highly recommend.
