Sort of Spoiler Alert: I can't give over 3 stars to anything that ends in a big ole shootout (not really giving anything away - you see the Final Confrontation Between the Good Guys and the Bad Guys coming a mile away) but this was pretty good for junk/mindless reading. Would definitely recommend it to guys, or anyone looking for a page-turner.

Just outstanding. This was my first C. J. Box book and definitely not my last. This book is well organized and well written. The murder of a man is witnessed by 2 children in Northern Idaho. The killers will do anything to keep them quiet. I have to admit, I really felt a lot of emotion in this book about the characters in this book. The antagonists (bad retired L. A. cops) were brutal, the Sherriff was a mess, Jess Rawlins was heroic and loveable and of course the two children were, …, well, … children and who doesn’t love everything about children. But, the murder is just the tip of the iceberg. The story surrounds the reason for the murder. Furthermore, the antagonists have a criminal past that is catching up with them when a retired California police detective shows up in Idaho following a trail of marked $100 dollar bills. This is non-stop excitement and suspense. I couldn’t put it down. The ending was emotional but gratifying for me. Definitely recommend this.

Great book! Edge of your seat suspense that keeps you sucked into the story. I had a hard time putting this book down because I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next. This was a suspenseful story with intersting characters and some really bad guys! This was the first book I read by this author, but it will not be the last. I could definately see this story being turned into a movie.

Kept my interest for part of a flight and wasn't interesting enough for me to feel bad about leaving it behind, which is exactly how I like my travel reading. As far as thrillers go, it's okay—I'm not super interested in spending lots of time in the bad guys' heads, which is a point against this, and I'd really rather hoped that there would be a lot more on-the-run-in-the-Idaho-woods, which is why I picked up the book in the first place. I've been in an on-and-off mystery/thriller mood lately, and this didn't really do it for me.
