I love Sally Rooney's writing and this book, like her previous work, was a joy to read. The first 30 or so pages I was unsure as she made some stylistic choices that were not my favourite, but around the time the trip to Rome happens I was fully in it. The narrative chapters were 'chef's kiss' while the email exchanges left me conflicted. They read like essays in the middle of the book and therefore quite jarring. This interrupted the slow of the story too much for my liking. I'd get impatient reading the caracters musings on various topics but then she'd throw a crumb of information, a passive aggressive passage or two that revealed a bit more about the relationaship of the two women and it would feel worth it. Could have done without the last two chapters with a bit more of an open ended ending, but overall loved the book.
