Fun story, although I wasn't 100% fond of the narrator's voice. I'll still be reaching for the sequel! :)

This was this gothic mystery solving story that I did not know I needed until I happened upon it via my local library who provided the audiobook for it.

The story in itself is very mysterious and situated around these mystic circles in London where all kind of weird and strange paranormal things seemed to happen.

This was delightful, intelligent entertainment with a decidedly feminist take on the Sherlock Holmes/Watson trope. Loved it.

I received a copy of this book via NetGalley.

An entertaining and atmospheric Sherlock Holmes-esque mystery with a female 'Watson' and a touch of the paranormal. Very descriptive of late 19th century life in London and the Victorian fascination with Hypnotists, Mediums and seances and all things otherworldly. Excellently drawn characters and a few genuine chills. Good old fashioned storytelling.

This one was a cheap purchase off Book Bub. Out of all the different services that will find you cheap ebooks, they seem to be the only one that will send you recommendations from authors. So this came with a recommendation from George R R Martin which convinced me to give it a try. Otherwise, the blurb would have vaguely interested me but I probably would have written it off, skimming through too fast to notice that I had actually heard of the author before. (If it's F/SF and I haven't heard of the author and it's on one of those services, there is a high chance it is self published, which isn't necessarily bad, but does stack the odds against it.)

And the verdict is? Not bad at all. The usual trappings of any work set in Victorian London are all here, the duo of Lane and Jesperson are interesting folks and the mystery is compelling.

What drivel I am sorry this is an awful book full of so many plot holes and characters that just feel too insipid and too dramatic and also just plain awful. The main character annoys the hell out of me she doesn’t seem to care for anyone or anything she acts like a spoilt little brat and is just rubbish also has apparently psychic powers that again she can’t use gahhh wtf Lisa Tuttle please please stay away from murder mysteries crossed with psychic stuff you can’t get it right and this is just awful.
