This was the most literary science fiction I've ever read, and for me, that wasn't a good thing. It resembles my least favorite kind of literary fiction where normal people just go through their mostly boring and very dreary, if not outright depressing, lives.
That said, in this case these dreary lives where set in an entertaining science fiction universe, with many nods toward the fourth wall. The parts of this book I enjoyed the most reminded me of the Thursday Next series by [author:Jasper Fforde|4432].

Minor: Sexual content and Mental illness
