Such a delightful journey through the English countryside. Slow paced, yet beautifully written and captivating. A very enjoyable and thought provoking read.

A lovely read! The narrator Stevens is such a great character - he has such a distinctive voice and especially the ending really had me feeling for him. Once again Ishiguro delivers on what I care about most, which is the idea of memory. I weep.
I also don't like this as much as the others of his I've read - I can't quite put my finger on why, very likely it's a me problem, or perhaps my expectations were too high because I've heard several times that this is his best work. But it was still good in many of the ways I care about. Miss Kenton.... forever in my heart. My girl deserved the world.

It would take me too long to voice all of my thoughts on this book. It is so devastating to follow Stevens on his journey, essentially back through his life as a butler in Darlington Hall. It is incredibly sad the things he has missed out on in order to retain his idea of ‘dignity’. The ending broke my heart a bit!

Sublime study of aching repression.

What I was supposed to get out of this book: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1184702462.

What I actually got out of it: more or less the same, just felt more muted. Loved A Pale View of Hills, but the stakes here for some reason just felt not as significant.

As with all Ishiguro books I read, I can’t put a finger on what I liked about this book at all, but what I do know is I couldn’t put it down.
