I read this book when I was really little and I never got why people liked it. I always hated it. It's not creative, just a lot of "Good-nights." It rather puzzles me how popular it is. There are many, many more interesting children's books to read!

Why we like it and why I like it:
Our baby is 13 months and this is her favorite, she pulls it off the shelf each time and wants us to read it again. It seems good developmentally since it repeats good night+object. That creates an expectation that is repeated and repeated, which creates a rhythm and lulls to sleep.
I like that it is historic. I love the old-fashioned telephone, nurse-bunny, mush etc. To me it seems like a bunny who is being put to bed by his nurse or babysitter, and is overcoming his fear of the dark by taking ownership of his space. That they included Nobody is my favorite bit, making all nouns equal in a way I wouldn't have thought of logically, that can only come from a child.
The colors are brighter on the board book than the paperback. One unfortunate thing is that the font colors often blend in to the background when you're reading in low light so I always end up skipping a phrase somewhere because I just don't see it.

When I started doing Christmas book shopping for my boyfriend's niece, I absolutely had to get a copy of Goodnight Moon. It is a classic bedtime story for little kids.
