Had a fun premise, but predictable writing and slightly boring.

I really wanted to like this; it was my second attempt with it and I only made it halfway through before throwing in the towel, it had gotten to feeling like such a chore. (And there was a waiting list of people waiting for the library book, so I guess it’s better to just return and let someone else enjoy it, right?)

I feel like it had so much promise. I loved the antique shop setting, the concept of Xanthe hearing antique objects reach out to her. I was even intrigued by the time travel premise though I find time travel to often be fraught with plot holes. (It’s riddled with them.)

The story was so convoluted, and just dragged and dragged. The interactions between the characters all felt fake. I often found myself wondering if it had been edited at all.

My second attempt was with audio book and while at first I liked the narrator’s unique voice and animated narration it quickly got tiresome. It was too affected, especially when reading characters voices, especially that of the men and the seventeenth century characters.

Two stars because I did like the premise and I loved the cover art.

Just could not get into it - premise of going back in time to save someone interesting (Xanthe a good character, like that she can see/feel things about the lives of an objects owner)

While emotional, this cozy historical mystery brought a lot of joy to me as the reader. Xanthe and her mother and their struggles along with her shocking discoveries about the past made for a warm and lighthearted story about how far love can take you.
