I enjoyed this one a lot. Normally I don’t view a film before reading a book but in this case I did and thought the two complimented each other nicely. This book discusses many important topics and themes: racial inequity, police brutality, unequal access to quality education, etc. It would be a wonderful addition to high school curriculums. The reason I gave the book 4 instead of 5 stars is I felt the writing was needlessly specific about unimportant topics at times so there were moments the plot dragged in my reading experience. Overall, would highly recommend!

It is the perfect example of why #ownvoices books are so important and why we need more of them published!!!

Inspirational YA

This book is so easy to read. It's very contemporary and you fly through the pages. And it feels so very real, like reading the newspaper.

The more we do to give voice to all the injustice the more likely something will change.

If someone doesn't like this book, they are a Hailey. And we have to find a way to reach them, because there are too many people who don't see the wrong in this world.

Very powerful and emotional book. I fell in love with so many of the characters, which doesn't really happen often. I laughed, I cried, I learned, cried some more, I had epiphanies, and cried even more.I LOVED it!

I love Star's parents.

There is so much I love about this book. The ddiversity. The humor. The sad parts tha make you reflect. How it made mee feel heard and understood as someone from.an immigrant family and interracial parents.

The injustice. The justic and power of people, community.

Tbh I find this book very fitting for catholics. Naastenliefde. Forgiveness.

It has taken me several days to write this review. Not because I didn't like the book, or that I simply loved it, but more from the idea that it impacts you immensely. Hours have gone by, days have gone by and I am still thinking about this book and the content that is so apparently in your face when reading it.

Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this book. It may be uncomfortable to read at times, but you can't deny the impact this book will have on your life.
