After hired gun Brandon Gabriel rids Spring Branch of the trouble they've been having, he is set upon by the men who hired him and beaten. An avenging angel with a repeater rifle, Allison Taylor, breaks up the unfair fight and takes Brandon home to mend.

This isn't Allison's first time saving Brandon. When they were children in the same orphanage, she once took a whip lash for him. But now she's all grown up with a ranch of her own and a wagon-load of orphans on their way to her. But that same rough element in town is against a woman owning a cattle ranch, against a bunch of throw-away kids getting a second chance in their town.

It's obvious to Allison and Brandon that they need to team up, but the trick is to figure out if it will be a business only proposition.

I'm a Cheryl Pierson fan. Her Western romances have wounded heroes and plucky heroines worthy of admiration. I wouldn't have survived the Old West, but I can make believe as I read Cheryl Pierson novels.
