A good, "everything-works-out-in-the-end" sort of chapter book.

I love Kate DiCamillo, but this book wasn’t really my style. I did not enjoy the writing and the story line felt empty.

While this book was not quite as remarkable as I was expecting, I still found it charming. I love the varying points of view and the way the story seems to flow effortlessly from character to character. This is one of those stories that needs to be read aloud to be fully appreciated.

While this one didn't totally absorb me the way that Tale of Despereaux did, I loved the magic and hopefulness of this story. DiCamillo shows that she's capable of packing a lot of power into a relatively short tale. And the luminous illustrations that are so generously interspersed through the book are a perfect complement to the text.
