This book was really fun to read, and is definitely one I'd recommend. The time period isn't normally one I tend to read in, but it was engaging and I never felt bored reading it at any point.
I must note however, that whilst Nell and May's endings felt very complete and satisfying, I was rather disappointed at Evelyn's. Perhaps it's because I'm a lesbian who really has no time for men, or because I don't fully enjoy the time period in terms of history, but Teddy REALLY got on my nerves. But Teddy aside, I feel like Evelyn's ending really didn't show her development of her character? If anything, it felt like it completely dismissed her entire personality and beliefs.
The main point is that this would have been a 5* book, if only Evelyn's ending wasn't reduced to what it was. However, I would still recommend this book to anyone interested in women's history or WW1.

I liked the two separate stories but I would have enjoyed it more as two separate books about May and bells relationship, then about Evelyn. I feel like I would have liked teddy more if there had been some of his perspective on suffrage and maybe the war too as he was quite a small character. A woc perspective would have been good as well.

This was more of a home front First World War novel than a story about suffragettes, since it starts in 1914, but once I'd adjusted my expectations I enjoyed it. All the characters were likeable but I was surprised that Evelyn's story barely overlaps with May and Nell's and I kept expecting for all three to meet. A few historical details weren't quite integrated into the narrative so it sometimes felt like a history lesson, however I didn't really mind because all the information was interesting and important. A few times I found myself googling to read about the real stories behind various events and experiences. It's YA so I would have enjoyed it more as a teenager but it was definitely worth the read.
Moderate: Torture
Minor: Death
There is graphic description of force feeding of a suffragette while on hunger strike in prison
