After being involved in helping to solve several murder cases, Sadie Hoffmiller has gained a reputation. A reputation that Sadie would rather not have. Unfortunately for Sadie, the harder she tries to not get involved, she always seems to fine herself in the wrong place, no matter what she does. Sadie’s reputation has caused the townsfolk to gossip even more. Also Sadie, is trying to figure what where she and her boyfriend, Peter Cunningham are in their relationship. So when, May Sanderson wants to hire Sadie to travel with her to Portland, Oregon to help solve her father’s murder, Sadie decides this might be the break she needs to get away from it all for a little while.

I like this series. Blackberry Crumble is the latest yummy, treat in the Culinary Mysteries series. Sadie is a fun character. She is just your normal, everyday woman who just wants to bake, have a boyfriend, and solve a few murder cases on the side. While, this book took a little longer for me to get into it, I still did like it. Once it picked up, I had fun reading about all the mayhem that Sadie got into. It is amazing how Sadie solves a murder as it is like she does it purely by accident. An added bonus that comes with each of these books are the delicious recipes inserted throughout the book. For example, there is always the featured recipe that goes with the title of the book. In this case for Blackberry Crumble, the featured recipe was…Blackberry Muffin Tops.

I would consider this series to be a soft mystery and is lighthearted in nature because Sadie feels like a typical woman that I might know in church. The lighthearted nature is reinforced by the inclusion of recipes that Sadie is so very enthusiastic over. I love great food and so it is a fun angle. I can't claim this series is deep, but it is ...

Another fun read. I think this series is so popular because readers get to vicariously live through a protagonist who 1. does not fit the typical "crime-fighting protagonist" mold 2. Breaks boundaries that we would be embarrassed to interfere in, and she does it well. I've got to try the "bacon ice cream" recipe in here sometime!

It was so fun meeting this cute author the other day! I'm excited to read this book! :)

I really enjoyed this book. The fun whodunit mystery was good and I really liked how the author focused so much on the relationships of the main people in this book. I also like the outcome of one relationship I've been following from several books in this series now. One of my favorites in this series. :)

I've been sick and needed quick, easy reads. Luckily I still had these on my shelf. (I borrowed them from my mom months ago). They're not my favorite books ever. At first, I couldn't even stand the main character. But, she's grown on me and the books are kinda fun.

Kilpack's writing is improving. This is a mindless cozy mystery. Definitely an easy summer book.

I have to admit I did not enjoy this book as much as Josi's previous mysteries. It moved very slow and at times was a bit dull. That being said, I liked the story enough to keep going in order to find out "Who Dun it?". Note: This book is part of a series. There are events mentioned in this book that occurred in previous novels, but I still feel that the book can stand alone.

This was another fun addition to this series. I do have a hard time sometimes because things that happen or things the characters do seem so unbelievable and implausible, but I still enjoy reading it. There were times I "got it" before Sadie did and it seemed so obvious to me, that I wanted to shake her so she "got it" too. LOL There was the usual twist from where you think it's heading at the end, but this one wasn't as action-packed as some of the previous ones, had a slightly slower pace. I enjoyed the scenery the author described in Portland, especially as I love that area, although I haven't spent a ton of time downtown. There were some interesting developments with a few of the regular characters that I hope will continue to play out in subsequent books (and from the sneak peek in the back, at least one of those does!).

I do find it interesting that this LDS author has chosen to write things from a broader perspective and, thus, probably for a broader audience. She mentions a glass of wine, a cup of tea, and smoking cigarettes in some of the peripheral characters, while Sadie is religious, but the church she attends doesn't sound to be LDS. It's not a detriment to the book, just something I found interesting in this and the previous books.

The recipes sound yummy again, especially the Loaded Bread Dip. However, this time around there was actually one that I'm pretty sure I won't try - the Bacon Ice Cream. I've actually hard of bacon being used this way a lot recently, but it just doesn't sound appetizing to me!!! LOL If someone makes it for me, I'll try it, but it probably won't be on the top of my list of ones to try from this book. I'll tackle the yummy-sounding muffins and the title recipe first!!

Overall, a fun, light mystery read.

An easy fun read. Sadie is an amateur investigator who seems to have a way of getting into trouble. This book kept you guessig until the end without dragging it out.
