A collection of short stories centered around classical myths with a more modern take on some. Heavy at times, but overall enjoyable if you like Haddon's other work or want something smart and short.

Not star rating because there is too much variability in a short story collection. The prose is beautiful. I am sure a lot of what there is to appreciate in some of stories that fell flat for me was just over my head. I solidly enjoyed The Mother’s Story and The Quiet Limit of the World. My Old School and The Wilderness were strong at the start but for me fell flat in their endings. The other four stories didn’t pull me.

I don’t know why but I just can’t deal with short story compilations.
