This was a good read; the two interconnected stories between friends Alina and Laura were interesting, well done, and thought provoking.

While I didn't always agree with the social and political commentary, I can recognize that it was done well and was in-tune with the story at hand. However, it's also important to note that this book is set in Mexico from a Mexican author, so it would be unfair to judge this commentary from a completely American perspective. If anything, I gained some better perspective on the country and its society.

I also really enjoyed how the story handled tougher topics, such as disabilities, parental love and questioning your parental abilities, broken families, and so on.
