OH. MY. GOD. This book depleted my health bar. My body hurts from cringing every five minutes, my eyes hurt from rolling them so many times I think that's my default reaction to everything now. Like, holy shit fuck this was just awful and, because it's been a while since I actually finished a book I HATED, I decided to try to finish it and HOLY SHIT how did this book manage to be nothing but a downhill slope? Jesus Christ. It was a fucking mess.
I'm normally not a fan of including gifs in my reviews, but this was what this book made me want to do:

People actually LOVE this book and its sequels. I spent money on it. I am a part of the problem.
Jesus god I need a shower this book was disgusting and hilarious but not hilarious enough to make up for the slut shaming, the snail who got stepped on's pacing, and just some of the worst fucking writing, characters, plot, and shitty excuses for "art" I have ever read since I learned how to read the written word. It is the WORST.

What disappointed you about More Than This?
I was expecting a fun, sexy romance and instead I got a bizarre fever dream that pretended to be fun and sexy and instead came off as deeply, deeply troubling, vain, childish, poorly written, with all-around awful and unlikable characters that ended up being a metaphorical dumpster fire of clichés, bad writing, mediocre performances, and unrealistic plot points that were unintentionally hilarious. I'd be tempted to call this a "so bad it's good" book because I DID laugh at it so much, but it would be too painful to call anything about it "good" even in the ironic sense of the word.
What could Jay McLean have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I know this isn't constructive, but basically everything. If I were writing this book, I'd read it, realize it was a garbage concept packed with clichés, slut shaming, characters so jealous their skin would be green if they were real (which, come on, they aren't real, they barely act like actual human beings), and that, even on the basest level of intending for it to be a romance and realizing not a single line or really even a single WORD in this book is romantic, sexy, cute, etc...I'd realize that, and I'd throw out the concept. I'd start over. I'd realize this book isn't salvageable and just scrap it because it would actually be pretty close to being a crime to call this a book and sell this to people for real life money.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jeremy York and Allison Lynnewood?
I wouldn't subject ANY of my favorite narrators to this trash heap. Jeremy York and Allison Lynnewood were fine, but if I ever run into a book where they're narrating, I might have war flashbacks to this book so they're definitely off the table for The Best Narrators I Listened to in 2018.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from More Than This?
As stated above, I'd cut all of it. It's trash. It's utter trash.

It baffles me that this book has an average of 4.5 on here and a 4.14 on Goodreads. It's books like these with ratings like that which make me wonder why god has forsaken us.

In the past four years, Mikayla has dated her high school boyfriend. During her prom, she discovers her best friend has been hitting him on the side for the past two years. She gets swept away to another prom that night by Jake, the sexy boy from another school with a hero complex. What a terrible night, huh? Haha! You have seen nothing yet. After their magical evening, Jake accompanies Mikayla back home only to find that her entire family has been murdered, and it has set her house on fire, leaving her homeless. Once again, Jake saves the day and takes her home to be with his family to begin an extremely unhealthy, insta-love relationship.
It took all my willpower not to DNF this book. The story is one of the most unrealistic I’ve ever read!
The characters seemed like cardboard cutouts attempting to convince me they were in a relationship. She moves into Jake’s family’s home after that and they start a new life together (remember that they met the night before and now he is apparently ‘her home’). I have never read such a frustratingly boring insta love slow burn.

I am torn between giving this book one or two stars. While I am a sucker for romance and fluff and so on, this book had me sighing and rolling my eyes constantly.
I felt like reading really bad fanfiction. Like, really bad.
In my opinion there was too much happening in this book. And situations seemed unrealistic and rushed.
What I mostly remember from this book is that Jake's accent is so sexy, his friends are constantly gone fucking each other and Mikayla is so hot.

In one night Mikayla finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her with her best friend, she meets another guy, Jake, who she instantly clicks with, spends prom night with him and his friends and is instantly part of the group and her entire family is murdered. And she then stays with Jake, who she just met that night, and just days after she's talking about love.What I mostly remember from this book is that Jake's accent is so sexy, his friends are constantly gone fucking each other and Mikayla is so hot.

I love how it pays homage to Sea of Tranquility, one of my favourite books of all time.
Jake and Mikayla. She finds out her bf is cheating on her with her best friend. He happens to be at the restaurant at the same time and witnesses the fight. Jake invites her along to his prom and then comes home to find out her parents and sister have died in a burglary gone wrong.
My issue is that the story isn’t realistic or believable. Mikayla isn’t as broken as you’d expect from someone who’s lost their family and her relationship with her best friend and boyfriend all in one go.
Jakes family is nice enough to take her in, although at this point she’s literally a stranger.
And then it turns out her bestie actually asked the dude to rob her house to steal the necklace she got from Jake coz she’s a jealous psycho??
There needed to be a bit more description in the writing to build a more fully fleshed out story.

It's like the author would write one scene in one sitting. One conversation with one cup of coffee which wasn't actually a bad idea, it's what makes it intense, but I'm betting that is the reason of the grammar errors all others are complaining of. If you are an extreme grammar nazi, do not read this book, if you are a book lover/ boyfriend book lover then by all means. Indulge and get annoyed, stressed out, be irritated and love the characters (and the author) at the same time. Fine quick and a happy read.

Wow! The first 20% was kinda nuts. It definitely made me have the feels, and all the emotions came out of the woodwork for this book. I gave 4 stars because there were parts that were confusing and over dramatic even for their age, a little more unrealistic then I typically enjoy. All in all a great read that wish I would've read sooner. Jake Andrews is definitely hot stuff!

Forced myself to finish this was unrealistic and I don't mind that when is done good but this was super boring.I hated Jake and Kayla, and their insta-love. One star is for Cam & Lucy and Logan overall yikes.
